Registered Physiotherapists

Chris Henderson

Chris Henderson

Chris is a registered physiotherapist and is a member of the Orthopaedic division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA). He graduated from The University of Sydney in Australia where he received his Masters degree in Physiotherapy. Prior to his physiotherapy education, Chris received his Bachelor of Kinesiology (Honours) Degree from Brock University.

Experienced in working with a wide spectrum of clients with varying musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and neurological injuries and conditions, Chris is involved in ongoing education and professional development. In 2016, Chris completed the Advanced Orthopaedic Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy Diploma Program from the CPA and is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapists (FCAMPT).

Kieri Lavoie

Kieri graduated with a Master’s of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Toronto. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics from the University of British Columbia.

Kieri values an individualized, evidence-based treatment approach which emphasizes hands-on techniques, education and exercise prescription in order to help patients maximize their function and reach their goals. As an athlete involved in national and varsity level soccer and other recreational sports, she has also gained a passion for preventative rehabilitation which helps people maintain a healthier lifestyle and remain pain-free while engaged in activities they love.

She is committed to post-graduate education and has completed the Orthopaedic Level 1 Certification in Manual Therapy. She is also certified in Soft Tissue Release, and has completed the Contemporary Medical Acupuncture program at McMaster University. She is interested in completing her manual therapy training, neurokinetic therapy certification and pursuing pet rehabilitation. 

Kevin Wood

Kevin completed his Master of Physical Therapy training at the University of Toronto in August of 2018. Kevin is a passionate and enthusiastic health care provider who is motivated to provide evidence-based, comprehensive therapy utilizing both manual and exercise-based techniques to accelerate healing and promote well-being in addition to client education to promote independence throughout the rehabilitative process. Kevin’s treatment programs are tailored to client-specific limitations and restrictions informed by an analytical approach to assessment.

Prior to starting at Physio First, Kevin completed his undergraduate training in Health Sciences at the University of Western Ontario followed by a Master of Science in Measurement and Methods in the School of Rehabilitation Studies at Western. Kevin has spent over four years in the field of research in nursing and medicine before transitioning to a clinical role administering rehabilitative therapy at Physio First. Kevin is dedicated to providing impactful treatment programs in a one-to-one setting with his clients at Physio First. Kevin’s interests include cycling, hockey, running, weightlifting, rock climbing, and dieting.

Chi Hai Nguyen

Chi Hai is a passionate Physiotherapist who graduated from the University of Toronto with a Honors Bachelor of Science and a Masters in Physical Therapy. Chi Hai enjoys working with a wide variety of patients and conditions. He has a special interest in sport related injuries and has worked with many athletes including weekend warriors, cross fitters, power lifters, marathon runners and NBA players.

His approach to treatment involves a thorough musculoskeletal assessment taking into account the patient’s health history and goals to develop an individualized plan of care. He enjoys getting to know his patients and employs manual therapy, education, and exercise prescription as he guides them through their rehabilitation. Chi Hai is a firm believer in life long learning and continually educates himself to stay up to date on the latest evidence based research. He is interested in pursuing further education in acupuncture.

Outside of the clinic, Chi Hai stays active and unwinds by going for runs, weight training, rock climbing, and watching Netflix!

Sina Akbarzadeh

Sina Akbarzadeh

Sina is a graduate of the University of Toronto, where he earned his Master of Science in Physical Therapy. Prior to that, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology at York University.

Sina became immersed in the world of physiotherapy after sustaining a serious knee injury while playing competitive soccer. Through his own injury and rehab, he developed an appreciation of the science of movement, the complexity of the human body and its incredible ability to adapt in response to injuries.

Sina utilizes a variety of manual techniques, such as soft tissue release and joint mobilizations, exercise prescription and education to assist clients in achieving their goals. He also has completed his Level 1 certification under the Canadian Physiotherapy Association Orthopedic division with plans to complete further levels of the Advanced Orthopaedic Manual, along with courses in acupuncture and dry-needling. Sina is also fluent in Farsi.

Outside of work, some of Sina’s hobbies include playing soccer, weight training while listening to backstreet boys and beatboxing. He is also an avid backpacker, and has recently travelled to countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, Italy, Switzerland, France and Dominican Republic.

Melissa Venturuzzo

Melissa received her Honours Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from the University of Toronto, and her Master of Science in Physiotherapy from McMaster University. In 2016 she received her Advanced Diploma in Manual and Manipulative Therapy through the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, and became a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy. She is trained in acupuncture through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute, is certified in Integrated Dry Needling, and is a certified Nordic Pole Walking Instructor through Nordixx Pole Walking Canada.

Melissa enjoys meeting new people and connecting with her patients. Committed to ongoing education, she has hosted several physiotherapy students during their placements, and has acted as a clinical reasoning facilitator within in the Physiotherapy program at the University of Toronto. In her practice, she takes a comprehensive approach that includes manual therapy, therapeutic taping, acupuncture, and exercise to successfully achieve her patients’ goals.

In her spare time, Melissa enjoys playing the piano, baking, and chasing after her three children.

Adam Milaniak

Adam Milaniak

Adam graduated with a Master’s in Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto. His prior education includes completing an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology and Health Science from York University. During his Master’s, his clinical placements involved working with a wide variety of patient populations within hospitals, rehab centres, and outpatient clinics.

Maintaining an active lifestyle has always been an important part of Adam’s life. Seeing firsthand the benefits that daily movement has on both mental and physical well-being, Adam took that passion to further his knowledge in biomechanics and movement sciences, and ultimately decided to pursue physical therapy as a career.

Adam’s treatment style is collaborative, placing the client in the centre of the rehabilitation process. Adam empowers clients by sharing the knowledge necessary to understand how the body works, engaging clients in each session to achieve their goals. Clients can expect the use of functional exercise, complemented by education, manual therapy, and electrical physical agents to help accomplish their goals.

When not in the clinic, Adam finds every reason to spend time outside. Whether that be finding new hiking spots to explore year-round, coaching volleyball in the summer or skiing in the winter. He also enjoys baseball, tennis and keeping up with current events.

Michelle Boileau

Michelle Boileau

Michelle graduated with a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Toronto. Prior to this, she obtained a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology with a specialization in Rehabilitation Sciences from the University of Waterloo.

Empathy and warmth are at the centre of Michelle’s approach to treatment. She understands that physiotherapy is not always an easy journey, and so she emphasizes a collaborative and individualized approach to patient care. She utilizes a variety of treatment strategies including education, exercise prescription and manual therapy to assist patients recover from injury and accomplish their goals. Michelle also places a strong emphasis on health promotion and injury prevention to enhance her patients’ overall well-being.

Michelle has a keen interest in pelvic health and manual therapy and plans on pursuing courses in these areas to expand her knowledge and further facilitate her patients’ recovery and return to an injury-free lifestyle.

Outside of the clinic, Michelle lives an active lifestyle and engages in weightlifting, yoga and dragonboat. She also enjoys baking and photography.

Emily Chen

Physiotherapy Resident

Emily is an Interim Physiotherapist who completed her schooling at the University of Toronto. Emily is originally from Vancouver, BC where she completed her Bachelors of Kinesiology at the University of British Columbia. Emily is invested in the health of her patients and takes a holistic, patient-centered approach to get them back to doing the things they love. Combining manual therapy with education and exercises, Emily invites all her patients to play an active role in their rehabilitation. Emily is bilingual and can offer therapy in both English and Mandarin.

Drawing from her previous experiences in personal training for older adults, working with patients in chronic pain programs, and treating a variety of orthopedic injuries throughout her practicums, Emily is excited to deliver high quality, hands on care for her patients. Emily loves learning new skills that will help her better treat her patients and plans on pursuing further courses in acupuncture and advanced manual therapy.

When not finding the underlying cause of why something hurts, Emily enjoys curling up with a good book, trying new recipes, and getting a good workout in.

Priya Akbari

Priya graduated from Mcmaster University with a Bachelor of Life Sciences and furthered her education at McMaster by completing a Master of Science in Physiotherapy with an elective in women's health. She has expanded her knowledge by pursuing continuing education courses such as Orthopedic Level 1 certification in Manual Therapy and advanced pelvic health physiotherapy courses on urinary incontinence and diastasis recti. Priya has a combined skillset of providing women's pelvic health physiotherapy as well as delivering care to high-performing athletes in a sports medicine rehabilitation setting.

Priya is a lifelong learner and strives to stay informed on the latest research in order to provide the most current evidence-based care to her clients. She views physiotherapy through a holistic lens and recognizes the importance of having a balance in life that emphasizes the value of exercise, sleep, nutrition, and stress management. Priya uses a comprehensive client-centred approach consisting of hands-on manual therapy, individualized exercise prescription, and education as tools to design an effective treatment plan. Priya aims to utilize her expertise to empower individuals like you to find the confidence in reaching your highest potential.

Outside of the clinic, Priya enjoys cooking, baking, and staying active by participating in kickboxing and playing ultimate frisbee!

Karli is a Registered Massage Therapist and graduate of Sutherland-Chan School and Teaching Clinic. She is also currently studying manual osteopathy at the Canadian College of Osteopathy. Before pursuing a career as a manual therapist, Karli completed a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from McMaster University as well as a Master of Science from the University of Waterloo. She has worked with a variety of athletes ranging from weekend warriors, to elite youth, to NHL players; as well as, chronic stroke survivors, cancer survivors and chronic pain populations.

As a former varsity soccer athlete who has experienced a variety of injuries, Karli recognizes the importance of massage therapy and osteopathic techniques for injury prevention, rehabilitation, and the maintenance of overall health. Countless misdiagnoses of one injury in particular sparked Karli’s interest in manual therapy and ultimately led her to pursue the study of osteopathic manual practice. Manual osteopathy is a holistic approach to therapy that involves finding and treating the root cause of the problem in order to help the body help heal itself. Karli believes that the use of osteopathic techniques, when applied in the right situation, can positively influence one’s anatomy and physiology to help each individual achieve his/her goals.

Outside of work you can find Karli spending quality time with family and friends, traveling on adventurous trips and being active each day. She loves to run long distances, lift weights, and play soccer and basketball (or any sport she can get her hands on)! She is committed to living a healthy active lifestyle and also sharing it with others!

Erica Mezger

Erica is a Registered Massage Therapist who graduated from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy last century.  With over two decades of experience in massage therapy Erica has taken the opportunity to work in a wide variety of settings which have allowed her to learn how to meet the treatment needs of all kinds of clients including infants, the elderly, mobility challenged, pregnant women, professional athletes and horses.  Additional training includes specialties in elder-care, pre & post natal massage, infant massage, hot stone massage and equine massage.

Prior to entering the world of massage therapy, Erica served in the Canadian Armed Forces as an army medic.  She pulls on her medical training to better understand conditions and find better treatment solutions for any unusual injuries that come her way.

Outside of the clinic:  Erica is a devoted mom to three amazing children who regularly like to test her skills at decorating bizarrely themed cakes and birthday parties.  Occasionally they give her time off to go geocaching, skiing and camping.

Tanya Henderson is a registered Naturopathic Doctor and graduate from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM).  With an interest in preventative medicine and supporting the healthy aging process, Tanya welcomes everyone - patients of all ages and health concerns.  A few examples of different concerns that naturopathy can address are fatigue, bloating, indigestion, heartburn, diarrhea, constipation, weight management, pain, inflammation, poor sleep, hormonal imbalances, infertility, immune health, skin health, and more.

Since completing her Doctor of Naturopathy Degree at CCNM, Tanya is currently working through the certification program at the Institute of Functional Medicine.  With this ongoing learning, she looks forward to advancing her knowledge in identifying and treating the underlying cause of illness.  She believes in the importance of understanding why an illness exists prior to starting treatment.  Tanya is also certified in Facial Rejuvenation & Cosmetic Acupuncture.

Carolina Acosta graduated from the Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) program at CDI College in Toronto. Carolina has over 10 years of experience working with a variety of patient populations in the rehabilitation setting.

Carolina is a valuable employee who implements care and treatments in a dedicated and honest manner, helping patients get the most of out of the rehabilitation process. Some of her treatments include patient-specific therapeutic exercises, Neuromuscular Electrical stimulation, Therapeutic Ultrasound and other modalities.


Carolina has taken several continuing education courses, including Bobath/NDT method, the Functional Movement System (FMS) and exercise for the older adult. She has certificates in Pilates mat work and CPR training. Carolina continues to add to her knowledge base by attending seminars and courses related to rehabilitation exercises.

In Carolina’s spare time, she likes to maintain an active life style participating in tennis, yoga classes and biking.
